📍 Why Kamaishi, Japan?

Learn where resilience meets the ocean

Kamaishi is a coastal city that has rebuilt itself after the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.

Here, students don’t just study global issues—they experience them firsthand.

  • Engage with local communities and real stories of recovery

  • Explore the connection between nature, people, and global challenges

  • Reflect on how these issues relate to your own future

Learning in this environment creates a deeper, more meaningful experience than a classroom ever could.

  • Set in the beautiful coastal area of Nebama, Kamaishi, this program brings together students from around the world to learn, challenge themselves, and grow together.

This region has been rebuilding since the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.
Through interactions with local residents, participants gain insight into lived experiences of disaster recovery and recognize how global challenges like climate change are closely connected to their own future.

Participants explore the richness of the ocean while learning about pressing issues such as marine plastic pollution.

They also learn practical actions they can take in daily life, acquire life-saving knowledge, and collaborate with peers to develop and share solutions for the future.

With internationally trained instructors guiding small groups, the program ensures a safe, supportive, and high-quality learning environment.

“Learn in nature, tackle global challenges, and shape the future with peers from around the world.”
This unique experience will be an unforgettable summer that expands each student’s potential.

  • Atlantic Pacific is honoured to be an accredited UWCx Initiative.

TESTIMONIALS

I had a lot of experiences that I couldn’t have at school, and I made a lot of friends, so I’m really glad I participated in this camp. All the local staff were kind. The food was also very delicious!

Spring camp 2023 PARTICIPANT

Influenced by the high school and college students he met at the camp, he began to think about his future and where he would go to school. Also, after returning home, he actually showed me how to do lifesaving activities and how to tie ropes.

My daughter returned from AP Spring Camp and told me, “My perspective has changed as I learnt and discussed how to save lives, and how to consider the environment to connect to a sustainable society. Now, I would like to find out what I can do little by little and contribute so that I and the next generation can live happily in the future… starting by recycling plastics.”
