This course will run from Sunday 11th - Saturday 17th August 2024 at the campus of United World College of the Atlantic.

Are you aged 14 - 17 and interested in learning lifesaving skills? Do you want to know what it is like working in search and rescue or as a emergency responder? Come learn about these topics from experts in various medical and responder fields, all while having a great time staying on the stunning grounds of St Donat's Castle in Wales.

Atlantic Pacific is an international humanitarian organisation run by our team of trusted experts on a mission to combat global drowning. Attending one of our camps demonstrates a well-rounded, adventurous and open-minded approach to learning.

This 5 day, 6 night residential course will not only provide you with a core set of lifesaving skills, but also a once in a lifetime learning experience set in the beautiful grounds of UWC Atlantic. Everyday we will be in the water / outside learning new practical skills around lifesaving, search and rescue, first aid, psychological first aid, emergency communication and VHF radio, environmental and weather factors in rescue, maintaining equipment and boats and many more fun activities.

You will also experience some simulated rescue scenario’s, both on land and in the water, putting your knowledge to the test. All equipment, including wetsuits, buoyancy aids, helmets etc… will be provided.

We want to encourage those that are passionate about lifesaving and further study or a career into the sector. The course is intense, and runs from 9am - 5pm everyday. You should be prepared for a full-on 5 days of learning, but most importantly meeting like-minded people and working together to help other people in their time of need.

A typical day:

The course runs from 9am - 5pm everyday with 4 x 90 minute sessions per day. Students will be allocated a group, which will participate in all 4 sessions per day. Students will be free in the evenings to join in with some activities arranged by AP, or relax in their accommodation. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all included in the price.

Accommodation:

Students are accommodated in one of the large dorm-style houses at UWC Atlantic. There are two floors, where we divide girls and boys. There is one communal shower area per floor with cubicles for showering and toilets. There are up to 4 students sleeping in one room. Accommodation, which includes all bedding is included in the price.

Who is it for: This course is designed for 14 – 17 year olds who are thinking about starting a career in lifesaving or emergeny response. You must be either 14, 15, 16 or 17 years old for the duration of the course. We require you to provide proof of age for this course with a passport or ID card. 

Ability after the course: You will have built skills in first aid, search and rescue, boat handling, psychological first aid, VHF radio, weather and rides, ropes and knots as well as team building and communication.

Dates: Course dates are Monday 12th – Friday 16th August 2023. Students will be expected to arrive on Sunday 11th August between 3pm – 5pm and depart on the morning of Saturday 17th August.

Location: This is a 5 day residential course, delivered in the beautiful grounds of UWC Atlantic College in South Wales. Please note that every child must be dropped off at the college by a legal guardian or nominated representative between 3pm - 5pm on Sunday 11th August and collected between 9am - 11am on Saturday 17th August 2023.

Cost: The course costs £1100 which includes accommodation and food for the 6 nights, the 5 days of training, and all equipment.

Course Materials Provided: All learning and safety equipment is provided. Further information on what to bring with you is provided in advance of the course.
